There are 2,000 NET patients in Ireland all of whom can benefit from meeting other patients and listening to their stories. It can be very therapeutic for both patients and their families to meet with other NET patients to talk with and to share their experiences.
Carcinoid Crisis Card
Carcinoid crisis can occur when NET patients are given anesthetics, e.g. for surgery. This can be fatal and medical staff need to be aware of this possibility when dealing with a NET patient. In urgent or emergency circumstances, it can be beneficial for NET patients to have an identifier on their person which identifies them as a NET patient who may require Sandostatin infusions.
Here is a pre-worded Carcinoid Crisis Card in PDF form, that you can print at home and carry with you at all times.
Some Irish patients have gone a step further and use a bracelet or necklace which identifies them as a Neuroendocrine Tumout patient and may require Sandostatin infusion.
